Crikey, I'm a'bouncin'!

Looky, looky!!!

Ap08insp

I wanted this to be as bold and "punchy" as the fabulous Vera Bradley print in Shurkus's challenge!  I think I pulled that part off!  I did some faux stitching with my piercing tool and white gel pen to re-create the "designer label" effect!  (I cannot help but smile whenever I see this technique used--I can still hear Consuelo, shouting out "SHUT UP!!!" *chinkle*)

As I was layering color and stamp images, I started to wonder . . . "Hmmmm . . .  I dunno if this is gonna work or not . . . "  But, it still seemed to have a chance, so I kept going . . . So glad I did not give it an untimely burial in the circular file because I absolutely LOVE how it turned out!

Quick Time Player Tips!

Link: Paper Trufflez: Could not be prouder . . ..

For Twinks and others having trouble viewing the Quick Time Slide Show:

You may need to switch your browser to Firefox; Internet Explorer often does not like QuickTime for some reason.   You can get that download free here:

Mozilla Firefox

I *heart* Firefox!

If you don't have the latest version of Quick Time Player, you can download it here, free:

QuickTime 7, Free download, PC & Mac

If these are not the issue, go into QuickTime Preferences, and click on the Advanced tab.  Change the "Download Cache" to the full setting - I think it's 10,000 MB - just slide the bar all the way to the right.

Hope that helps!  If not,  I'm at a loss, being tech inept as I am . . .

A-MUSE-A-PALOOZA: Challenge 2 - Inspiration Eastcoast style!

Link: A-MUSE-A-PALOOZA: Challenge 2 - Inspiration Eastcoast style!.

Mmmmm!    This is probably my favorite kind of challenge--being inspired by something completely unrelated to stamping!

Anyway, if you are planning to play this challenge, or any of the A Muse challenges, games, contests, etc.  make sure you are registered as an A Muse-a-Palooza participant, so your entries count!  Last year's registrations do not roll over into this year, so make sure you have submitted a new registration for THIS year!  Where do you register?  Right  HERE.

I'm hoping to find some time today to do Shurkus's--I *really* enjoyed playing Geeta's, and seeing everybody's submissions!

Taylor has a graduation ceremony this afternoon himself--"Moving Up to Middle School".  I think pizza and build your own ice cream sundaes will make for a great celebration tonight.

Thank you for all the warm wishes for Hayley!

Her class requested that she sing . . . and she was horribly nervous (the knee she had ACL surgery on last year began to shake and she had to shift her weight to her left, afraid it might give out on her, or she'd vibrate off the stage.

She sang beautifully!   Her classmates gave her a standing "O".

It kinda hit me like a brick wall that evening, hearing her sing, "I Hope You Dance", Lee Ann Womack.  I've been rather emotional the last few days . . .  But, if there's one thing I know about my Hayley, she will dance . . .

"Thank-you for reminding me not to take for granted these hectic, hair-pulling, blood pressure-raising wonderful years with my girls, ages 11 and 4 1/2!"--Beth

Beth--your hectic, hair-pulling, blood-pressure raising wonder years are only just about to begin!    But, I tell you, I wouldn't trade any of it for anything!

She graduated; we survived.  Hey--I wonder if we get a prize or something for this?!  *chuckle*

Could not be prouder . . .

ETA: I was bummed to hear some--maybe all?--of you cannot hear the sound track!  I've re-done it using another MP3 file of "I could not ask for More" by Edwin McCain, and perhaps if you try again, you'll be able to hear it.  It plays on mine, so I have no idea if no one else can hear it . . . ???

Sorry about that.  I'm not good with tech stuff--lots to learn . . . *sigh* . . .

OMG! Ya'all are ROCKIN' the Color Challenge!!!

Link: Splitcoaststampers Gallery - Search: AP08Color.

I am really just amazed and have enjoyed looking at everybody's creations!  Some really neat ideas!

Wish I had time to play today, but, I do have something rather important going on today . . . I'll share more later on that . . .

Have a FANSTAMPMAGORICAL Friday!

Hey, Mikey!  I likey!  I wasn't sure at first, as I laid all the papers down together, but, then I looked at my Copics, and decided to pull in some French Roast paper to mat the focal for added "ooph".

Tiny Butterfly is actually a solid image, but, after stamping her in Wisteria, I traced around her with a fine tip black marker, and then did the flutter trail behind.  I recently got the Willow marker and it's a wonderful muted green to use with these other colors--very tranquil.

I was determined to use the mushrooms in this--I just love those things!  They are so stinkin' C•U•T•E!!!  I *always* wanna do the mushrooms in RED, so I had to force myself to color them brown.

I didn't stamp a sentiment on it, but, I think I'll stamp "hi, friend" inside it, cuz that's one of my favorite sentiments, and I think it would be sweet  with this design.

Hope you get to stamp happy today!

A-MUSE-A-PALOOZA: Challenge 1 - Color Combo!

Link: A-MUSE-A-PALOOZA: Challenge 1 - Color Combo!.

Geeta is hosting a fabulous color challenge over at the A Muse-a-Palooza blog!

I *LOVE* her choice of colors because:

  • It's unusual
  • I would not have thought to try it
  • It gets me out of my usual color combo rut (celery + everything else, bwah ha ha haaaaaa!!!)
  • I always have the hardest time with purple colors and never really know what to put with it--so I always fall back on combining it with yellow!

I hope you will try it--I'd love to see your take on it, and you could win the challenge, so be sure to get yourself registered HERE as an A Muse-a-Palooza participant!

I've had this idea in my head for weeks--mebbe even months!  OMG.  Months.  Isn't that awful?  To have an idea that long in your head, waiting to be made real?  ACK! That is a most wicked kind of torture, I tell ya'.  So, it was nothing more than grilled cheese for dinner tonight, so  I could carve out a few scant and precious minutes to commit the delusion of brilliance in my head down onto paper.

The startled look on the one owl gets me giggling every single time! Nina, ya' KILL me girl! Love 'em!

In my head, the scene called for the owls to be in a tree.  Only problem was, we don't have a tree that even comes close in scale.  But, by jove, methinks the Muse graced me this time!  Not half bad for a girl who can't draw much more than stick-figures, eh?!

But, then, I needed a "canopy" of leaves . . . After a minute of thought, I realized Tree would do the job right nicely.

I colored the owls with a combination of Koh-I-Noor colored pencils and Copics!  Linda turned me on to these a year or so ago, and I love 'em--they lay down color like buttah!  They're woodless; in other words, they're pure color leads, without a wooden casing.  Sweet!

Grpshot_3I started messing around last Fall with the Copics and the KINs, after learning that graphic artists have combined Copics and colored pencils together for years.  By golly, what a good mix!

BTW, I did an article on this for Stampington Take Ten Summer which, is now finally out on the racks. I was surprised that the written info I'd sent wasn't included with the step outs, that showed the coloring progression, but, I can show something similar here:

For this design, I focused on using 3 markers for "base"color, and blending, and used the colored pencils for shading and texture.

Coloringprogress_2 I laid down the lightest colors of Copic first, and really, you don't have to worry about filling the image in--leave some white area without worry for this particular technique.

Next, I laid down colored pencil in deeper tones where I wanted to create shading and depth.

The last step was to come back with the Copics I had originally used when laying down "base" color, and blend the colored pencils and Copics together.

The results are quite awesome--almost resemble watercolor!  And, the best thing about it is that you can go over the same area repeatedly, re-working the color, but, you'll never pill the card stock.

With water-based mediums, you have to use watercolor paper as the water will break down the paper fibers of card stock pretty rapidly and cause what is referred to as "pilling".

Now, the branch is very narrow; I just colored those in with the markers as there really isn't enough room for glorified "shading", and whatnot, savvy?

I love using Copic Honey on things like beaks and birds feet (Or "talons"?  Sounds good, anyway!)--it's a warm orange-y yellow color--almost "mango" in tone.

Coloring is so therapeutic--Kindergarten for grown-ups, I guess?!  *chuckle*

Disclaimer:  Is this the way you're s'posed to do it?  No idea; don't care.  I just know that I LIKEY.

Woohoo2 Here's a detail shot . . .

And, here's what I wrote inside . . . which is something Dave would probably say to my "proposal"!  Hah!

Woohooins

Yeah.  Totally sumpin' he would say . . . *chuckle*

<---Uh huh.  That's me, arms wrapped 'round self, chortling gleefully over my sheer brilliance. *wink*
